Willingness and ability to travel

I have worked throughout the UK and enjoy visiting other places to work with people in their own settings.

Recent work has included travel to:

Aberdeen and Inverurie, Stirling, Dundee, London, Birmingham , Manchester and Salford, York, Kent , Doncaster and Wrexham in Wales

International:

In 2006 I travelled to Serbia with ‘Save the Children’ to deliver training to a multi-disciplinary audience of professionals (health, social work and education). With a paediatric consultant colleague we explored with them how to implement a new policy of moving disabled children out of institutions into the family home.

Sharing the model of care co -ordination which we had been part of delivering in Scotland, we looked at key issues including – providing emotional support to parents and siblings, identifying a cross-disciplinary core team for each family and challenging the inherent power imbalance between professionals and parents.

My fees include all travel and accommodation (where required) – in commissioning me you will know from the outset what my input will cost you.

Chairing the What? Why? Children in Hospital conference, 2016

I am chair of the board of this charity. We make films showing procedures children can have in hospital such as EEG and neonatal screening tests.

Our films are designed to help parents prepare themselves and their children for a visit to the hospital. Visit the website:
www.wwcih.org.uk to learn more.

A key concern for me is that people feel confident to ask questions and to understand as far as possible the consequences of decisions that they take. We know that a large number of parents will miss or cancel appointments because they feel unsure about what will be involved and are uncomfortable to ask questions.

The charity supports parents to understand what particular procedures might look like and show that it is okay to ask questions. Parents also tell us that the films help them to answer their children's questions and they can watch the film together in preparation for going into a hospital or other medical setting.
